How we deal with Anti Social Behaviour

Last modified 23/02/10 at 14:35

Anti Social Behaviour can be defined as "conduct, including speech, which has caused, or is likely to cause, alarm or distress to one or more individuals who do not reside in the same household as the offender".

GraffittiWe recognise the importance of making a stand against anti-social behaviour and those responsible for it, to prevent and hopefully reverse the detrimental effect it has on people's lives and the well being of local communities.

We aim to tackle Anti Social Behaviour through

  • A clear understanding of what anti-social behaviour is and why it is important to tackle it at the earliest possible stage;
  • A strategy that emphasises the importance of intervention to dissuade the perpetrators and to deter others;
  • Measures to promote dispute resolution and build up understanding, such as the use of independent mediation;
  • Providing those complaining of anti-social behaviour with support and regular feedback on measures taken and on outcomes;
  • Close inter-agency working to share information and where necessary, the delivery of enforcement sanctions;
  • The promotion and encouragement of responsible and neighbourly behaviour;
    Supporting the activities of residents groups, individuals and other agencies working to improve community cohesion.
