Right to acquire

Last modified 09/01/09 at 13:03

The Right to Acquire enables qualifying tenants of qualifying properties the opportunity to purchase their home at a discount. The discount is a fixed sum of money ranging from £9,000 to £16,000 which varies geographically.

In order to qualify for the scheme the property must have been built or bought on or after 1st April 1997 using Social Housing Grant funding from the Housing Corporation. Properties which were acquired as part of a stock transfer from a local authority on or after this date may also qualify.

Some properties will be exempt from the Right to Acquire, such as those properties that are in certain rural areas identified by the Government.
