Mental health support services

Last modified 23/01/09 at 13:58

The EPIC Trust Mental Health teams provide support services to single adults with mental health support needs. We currently offer accommodation-based support in the London boroughs of Hackney, Camden, Islington and Waltham Forest.

We offer a variety of services: some projects are shared, some have staff on site and others are self contained flats. Our aim is to help our service users sustain their tenancies whilst managing their mental health with the support of our staff and other professionals.

The team works closely with Community Mental Health Teams, Assertive Outreach teams, Social Services and other voluntary organisations in order to provide a person-centred support service. This service takes into account the wishes, abilities and aspirations of service users, whilst encouraging and supporting mental health recovery.

All our staff are experienced, trained and highly skilled and we share a strong commitment to our service users and the service we provide.

To find out more about EPIC’s support service for people with mental health issues, call us, Monday – Friday between 09.00 and 17.00:

To make a referral to our Mental Health floating support services, please contact the following:

Hackney

City and Hackney TPCT: 020 7683 4120. Referrals to our services in Hackney can only be made by professionals on behalf of those who wish to apply, such as Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurses, Social Workers, Counsellors and GPs. Our Hackney service provides support to those with low to medium support needs.

Camden

Camden Housing Options Services (Mental Health Referral and Move-On Co-ordinator): 020 7974 1410.

Islington

Call the EPIC Trust Referrals Co-ordinator on 020 7527 4656. Our Islington service provides support to those with medium support needs, with the following eligibility criteria.

For our 6-bed shared house in the Holloway area with staff on-site 5.5 days per week, we will consider applications from:

  • Those whose main needs are mental health issues
  • Those with clinical diagnosis and those who are subject to CPA
  • Those who have drug / alcohol problems and receive appropriate ongoing support
  • Those who are able to cope with group living and would benefit from a supportive and communal environment
  • Those developing independent living skills and working towards independence
  • Those who are able to self medicate and manage without 24 hour care

It may be that we will not be able to provide support to the following:

  • Those whose main needs are not mental health issues
  • Those whose level of alcohol and drug use means they are unable to engage with support in any purposeful way
  • Those unable or unwilling to engage with the service; those not able to participate in support planning and key working meetings
  • Those unable or unwilling to learn basic daily living and personal care skills where this is identified as a support need
  • Those exhibiting recent or current violent behaviour within the last six months. However, people with a history of violence may be considered if a full Risk Assessment is provided
  • Those with history of sexual offences and offences against children. This is due to the location of the project

Our selection criteria for our other shared and self contained schemes across Islington are very similar to the above. However, applicants are expected to have a slightly higher degree of independence as there are no staff on site and we only provide visiting support.
