Older people

EPIC provides sheltered accommodation and support services to almost 1,000 older people across London, Wherry and South Anglia. These services are for older people who may or may not have support needs.

Our goal is for all our service users to be as independent as possible and make their own life choices. Our Scheme Managers work with all residents individually to agree a support plan, which helps residents to shape their own lives and ensure that they have the level of support they need. We will also work with residents to help with organising Direct Payments or Individual Budgets where that is helpful.

The Sheltered Scheme Manager provides ongoing support, helps to facilitate social activities and is a friendly face on hand to talk to and to help with any problems. We also have 24 hour cover through alarms systems and a visiting team who provide cover if a Scheme Manager is ill or not available. In response to the needs of local communities we have staff who speak a range of languages and who are there to respond to the cultural needs of our residents.

We also provide a Floating Support service to older people in their own homes in the London Borough of Ealing, ensuring that older people are able to maintain their tenancies and live an independent life in a safe environment.

In London we have 38 schemes in the London Borough of Camden, Hackney, Islington, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Luton. In Norfolk, we have schemes in Thorpe St Andrew, Sprowston, Hellesdon, Horsham St Faiths, Drayton, Cawston, Reepham, Aylsham, Acle, Blofield, Lingwood, Wroxham, Thorpe Marriott and Poringland. In South Anglia, our schemes are located in Watton-at-Stone, Buntingford, Puckeridge, Bishops Stortford, Much Hadham, Sawbridgeworth and High-Wych.

To be eligible for our services for Older People, you must:

  • be over 60 years of age
  • have support needs and be in housing need
  • live in the borough or area that you wish to apply for, or have a strong local connection to the borough or area

You can also apply if you are more than 55 years of age and are registered disabled.
We will not normally consider an applicant who owns their own property. If this applies to you, we will make an assessment of your financial position. If you can afford to buy private sheltered accommodation, your application will not be accepted.
