Community working
“South Anglia has been holding its annual Community Spirit events for five years now and the response we get never fails to amaze me” says Caroline Kaldani, head of community development at South Anglia Housing. “Last year we had a record number of nominations. It just goes to show that there are lots of neighbourly, community minded people out there.”
Residents are encouraged to nominate neighbours and those that work in their communities for a range of awards including Community Champion, Young Achiever and Outstanding Neighbour.
Shaun from Bishops Stortford won the Inspiring Personality Award last year for being “a true hero of our time”. Shaun had his leg partially amputated five years ago due to an accident when he was helping a rail passenger who was trapped. He plays an active role in the Disability Action Group and has been an inspiration to his community.
“Encouraging people to recognise and reward community spirit has motivated more residents to get involved with their local communities” continues Caroline.
