Adapting homes in Roddons

Christmas came early for Hayley Venni from Wisbech this year when she moved into a new, specially adapted house and was reunited with her family with help from Roddons Housing Association and The Apollo Group.

31 Staithe Road Wisbech 450 Hayley, who is disabled, previously lived with two of her young sons in a two bedroom flat that had none of the required adaptations she needed making a lot of her daily tasks difficult.

When the team at Roddons Housing Association, part of leading affordable housing provider Circle Anglia, heard about this, they identified a void three bedroom semi detached property and transformed it into a modern house in four months.

The team has fully adapted the property to suit Hayley’s special needs, including an extra bedroom for a live in carer in the new two story extension and an enclosed garden for her children to play in.

Mrs Venni said: “I am thrilled, thanks to everyone from Roddons and Apollo for making it happen so quickly and just in time for Christmas, all my wishes come true today. My new home is just perfect and makes my life so much easier, we will all be so much happier here.”

Gary Breame, Capital Programme Surveyor for Roddons Housing Association, added: “Our residents are at the heart of everything we do and it feels very rewarding to see Mrs Venni so happy. Our adaptations service has made a real difference this year to the lives of residents who are disabled or who have mobility problems. To date, Roddons has invested over £1million to carry out 800 adaptations – enhancing the Life Chances of more than 1,000 residents in the area by providing homes that meet their needs.”

Kurt Mason, Apollo Divisional Manager, said: “At Apollo, we have always believed that our work not only improves homes but also the lifestyle of those living in them. It’s a real pleasure to see what a massive positive impact this new home will have for Mrs Venni and her family, particularly since it means she will be re-united with her family in time for Christmas.”
